Brisbane City Council supports a range of facilities that provide education programs for all ages and interests.
Flexi School
The Albert Park Flexi School is a joint initiative of Brisbane City Council and Education Queensland offering education to young people facing problems in traditional school environments.
What the Flexi School offers
The school provides academic, social, emotional and physical support to young people who are unable to attend a mainstream high school.
Flexi School students can achieve a Year 10 Certificate or Senior Certificate and Overall Position (OP).
Eligibility and enrolment
To attend the Flexi School, you will need to be:
- aged between 14 years, 9 months and 19 years and
- have difficulty attending a mainstream high school
There are various reasons why you may be unable to attend a mainstream high school. Some reasons are exclusion from school, school/family difficulties or substance abuse, absense from school for a long time because of illness, pregnancy, moving, or you may have special needs.
Referral process
Young people who think they may be eligible are welcome to contact the school.
Potential students can also be referred by:
- parents or caregivers
- community based organisations
- departments of families, youth and community care
- Education Queensland guidance officers
Once a student is referred, the school will arrange an interview to discuss the school program.

Environment Centres
Learn more about the environment and participate in the Environmental Learning Program or visit Council's Environment Centres at :
- Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre, 31 Paper Drive, Boondall - have fun learning about the wetlands' amazing variety of flora and fauna
- Downfall Creek Bushland Centre, 815 Rode Road, McDowall - enjoy the facilities catering for community interest in the environment and urban bushland areas
These centres are open from 8.30am-4pm, Monday to Friday.
Rochedale Landfill Education Centre - Towards Zero Waste
Brisbane City Council and Visy Recycling are pleased to announce the opening of the "Towards Zero Waste" Education Centre at Rochedale. At this Education Centre, participants will learn how to recycle effectively, reduce their waste to landfill and how to reuse limited resources.
The Towards Zero Waste Education Centre is located at Council's Rochedale Landfill site, Gardner Road, Rochedale and caters for visitors of all ages.
Entry into the education centre is free and by appointment only.
