Litter found on Brisbane's streets includes:

  • plastic bags
  • drink and food containers or wrappers

Council actions

Council continues to:

  • install new butt bins
  • clean and repair litter bins
  • increase litter patrols, street sweeping hours and manual clean-ups
  • increase high-pressure cleaning of paved areas (using recycled water)
  • assess the number and usage of bins to place where needed
  • run litter prevention education campaigns

Littering impacts

The littering affects include:

  • public health threat
  • fire hazard
  • attracts more litter
  • harms wildlife and damages our waterways

To help prevent littering:

  • teach children not to litter
  • stub out cigarettes and put them in the bin
