Litter prevention
To help maintain clean streets, Brisbane City Council Officers can issue fines for anyone caught littering. Fines include:
- $200 for general littering
- $300 for littering from a vehicle
- $400 for dangerous littering
Litter found on Brisbane's streets includes:
- cigarette butts
- chewing gum
- plastic bags
- drink and food containers or wrappers
Council actions
Council continues to:
- install new butt bins
- clean and repair litter bins
- increase litter patrols, street sweeping hours and manual clean-ups
- increase high-pressure cleaning of paved areas (using recycled water)
- assess the number and usage of bins to place where needed
- run litter prevention education campaigns

Reduce litter
To help prevent littering:
- teach children not to litter
- stub out cigarettes and put them in the bin
- carry a litterbag in your car
- pack a rubbish-free lunch, with reusable plastic containers
- secure bin lids
- take your litter home
