Bulimba District Neighbourhood Plan

Bulimba is one of Brisbane’s iconic inner city neighbourhoods. Its character and liveability, culture and environment make it a sought after community to live, work and play in.

Neighbourhood Planning brings together representatives from Brisbane City Council and the local community involving them in the planning process. This ensures everyone in Brisbane can have a say in how land will be used and developed in their community.

Neighbourhood Plan considerations

Preparing the Bulimba District Neighbourhood Plan, Council will work with the local community in considering:

  • the future of Oxford Street
  • better ways to protect character housing and streetscapes
  • opportunities to support business growth in the area
  • the future of light industry in the Banya Street area
  • protecting the environment
  • improving sustainability
  • local needs such as footpaths, lighting, street landscaping and design, public amenities, shopping facilities and community events
  • employment opportunities
  • infrastructure provision such as transport, technology, water and sewerage
  • recreation opportunities

Community Planning Team

When Council begins Neighbourhood Planning in an area, it establishes a Community Planning Team (CPT). This advisory body provides recommendations and local knowledge to assist in the preparation of the Neighbourhood Plan. It will:

  • help to prioritise issues and aspirations
  • provide advice on options for the future development and change of the local area
  • comment on the draft neighbourhood plan

The CPT consists of local residents, businesses, landowners and representatives from community organisations.  Nominations for the CPT have now closed with over 70 nominations received.

The first CPT meeting was held on Tuesday 4 August 2009.  Regular newsletters will be released with information about the progress of the CPT.
