Brisbane City Council's structure is aligned with Council's obligations under the National Competition Policy 
.
Council has six divisions and two business units that help run Brisbane services and activities, and manage resources.
The divisions are:
- Office of the Lord Mayor and CEO
- Brisbane Infrastructure
- City Planning and Sustainability
- Corporate Services
- Corporate Strategy Office
- Families and Community Services
The business units are:
- Brisbane Transport
- City Business
Queensland Urban Utilities houses Council’s Water Distribution and Water Retail work areas. Queensland Urban Utilities will become a new entity separate from Council in July 2010.
