Brisbane’s community networks and non-profit organisations are essential in creating a sustainable city.

Two ways you or your community group can get involved in sustainability are:

• join a Habitat Brisbane group and help restore natural habitats in parks, remnant bushland and along waterways
• get involved with a community based cooperative enterprise that supports school and community gardens and city farms

Grants for community groups

The Green Heart CitySmart program offers sustainability grants for community groups:

• The Community Grants and awards 
• The Lord Mayor’s Sustainability grants

The Queensland Government is also offering financial assistance to community groups who participate in the low carbon diet.

Events

Brisbane City Council holds several sustainability events throughout the year, including CitySmart Neighbourhood Fairs.
