'Protect Brisbane’s future and create a sustainable city.'

Brisbane City Council has released Growing a Green Heart Together. This initiative will support our community in becoming Australia’s most sustainable city.

Growing a Green Heart Together recognises our everyday actions impact on our environment. It describes what Green Heart homes, volunteers, schools and businesses look like, and the support Council offers to each group.

It links several environmental city-wide outcomes including:

• cleaner and sustainable energy use
• green and active transport
• water smart city
• towards zero waste
• food in the city
• clean air
• green and biodiverse city

New initiatives

Growing a Green Heart Together introduces new initiatives that will start in 2010, including:

• expanding support for Brisbane’s growing number of Green Heart Homes
• supporting individuals to undertake leadership and sustainability training through the Green Heart Ambassadors Program
• working with businesses to meet their sustainability goals through the Green Heart Business Program

An environmentally sustainable Brisbane requires working as a community to generate ideas and make them happen.

The most important part of Growing a Green Heart Together is that it asks: ‘What can we do together to create a sustainable city?’.
