Council responds to severe weather event

28 January, 2013

Brisbane City Council is thanking residents for their patience, as it coordinates the clean up following recent weather and flood conditions.

Council is continuing to assess and respond to damage across the city, with 20 new jobs currently being logged every 10 minutes.

The majority of calls received relate to fallen trees and debris, potential flooding, waste collection and evacuations centres.

In response, an evacuation centre has been set up at Sleeman Sports Centre for residents wishing to evacuate. The centre is currently open with on-site parking available.

Since midday today, 585 new jobs have been received by the SES, with 171 SES officers responding to them on the ground.

Sandbag collection is continuing across the city, with a total of 85,412 sandbags collected since Friday.
