Residents urged to immediately limit water usage

Following updated advice from water authorities, Brisbane City Council is urging residents to take immediate action to reduce their water usage over the next 24-48 hours due to severely reduced potable water supplies. This is due to record turbidity levels in the Brisbane River as a result of the extreme weather from ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald, forcing the closure of the Mt Crosby Water Treatment Plant.

Residents are being urged to reduce their consumption to just the basic needs – drinking water, water required for cooking, water to bathe babies and wash hands, four minute showers once per day for adults and turning the tap off while brushing their teeth.

Residents should not hose external areas of their homes or their cars to conserve water usage.
