Annual Report 2010-2011
2010-2011 was an extraordinary year for Brisbane as our city faced its greatest natural disaster in almost 40 years. Despite the devastation of the January 2011 flood caused, we have come through the challenge stronger, more determined and even more united.
Brisbane City Council's Annual Report 2010-2011 presents key achievements in our progress towards delivering on our long-term plan for the city, Our Shared Vision - Living in Brisbane 2026 and our focus on building a more inclusive, accessible, clean and green city.
This report reflects our commitment to rebuilding Brisbane through essential flood recovery works while continuing to deliver the services for which we are responsible.
Key achievements for the 2010-11 financial year include:
- purchasing 100% GreenPower for Council’s energy
- reaching the 1.5 million trees milestone as part of the 2 Million Trees project
- commencing work on the Legacy Way major road tunnel project
- removing 146,957 square metres of graffiti
- collecting more than 286,969 tonnes of refuse
- repairing or resurfacing 1,100,000 square metres of road
- 10 neighbourhood plans becoming effective
- loaning more than 10 million library items
- maintaining 55,000 hectares of grassed parkland
- answering 1.4 million calls in the Contact Centre
- upgrading 616 bus stops to be accessible to people with disabilities
- expanding Council’s on and off-road bikeway network to more than 1070 kilometres
- saving $51 million in capital procurement
- undertaking extensive flood recovery works including the removal of 458,004 cubic meters of waste and 4.9 million litres of sludge from pipes, sewers and gutters
