Deagon Ward
The Deagon Ward comprises the suburbs of Boondall, Brighton, Deagon, Sandgate, Shorncliffe, Taigum and Moreton Island (including the townships of Bulwer, Cowan Cowan and Kooringal) as well as parts of Geebung, Virginia and Zillmere.
Councillor Victoria Newton
Victoria Newton has represented Deagon Ward since March 2000. Before her election she worked for her predecessor Denise Herbert and Federal Member for Lilley, Wayne Swan and for the State Library of Queensland.
Victoria has a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Australian Political Economy.
As the Councillor for Deagon Ward, Victoria spends most of her time with local residents and community groups. She is a strong supporter of many community organisations within Deagon Ward. Victoria is currently the Opposition Spokesperson on Council's Public and Active Transport Committee, Chairperson of the Einbunpin Festival and patron of several local groups, including:
- Brisbane Volunteer Marine Rescue (Vice Patron)
- Sandgate Canoe Club
- Sandgate Theatre Company
- Sandgate and Districts Historical Society
- Sandgate Swimming Club
