Councillor Steven Huang
Steven Huang has been appointed Councillor for MacGregor.
Steven arrived in Brisbane from Taiwan in 1988 as a 12 year old boy who spoke very little English. Councillor Huang has lived here for more than 20 years and is a proud local with strong ties to the community.
Steven's parents decided to move to Brisbane because they believed Brisbane was the best place to raise their family. At the time, his family never dreamed that he would one day be involved in politics and become a Councillor for Brisbane City Council, representing their local area, the MacGregor Ward.
Councillor Huang attended Runcorn Heights State School and Runcorn State High School. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Queensland with a double major in Government and a Master of Public Administration degree.
He remains fluent in Mandarin and understands Cantonese. Steven hopes these skills will help him engage with and draw together MacGregor Ward's many multicultural communities.
Steven is extremely grateful for the opportunities this city offers newcomers. He will work hard to ensure that MacGregor Ward residents continue to enjoy a good quality lifestyle and services.
MacGregor Ward has changed a great deal over the last 20 years. It is the home to people from many lands. It reflects a wide cultural diversity within the suburbs of the MacGregor Ward - Sunnybank, Robertson, MacGregor, Eight Mile Plains, Kuraby and Runcorn have changed a great deal over the last 20 years.
