The Gabba Ward comprises the suburbs of Dutton Park, East Brisbane, Highgate Hill, Kangaroo Point, South Brisbane, West End and parts of Camp Hill, Coorparoo, Greenslopes and Woolloongabba.
Councillor Helen Abrahams
Helen Abrahams worked in the health sector in South Australia and New South Wales for 10 years before returning to her home town to work at the Queensland Workers' Health Centre.
Helen was Alderman for Paddington Ward from 1991 to 1994.
Committed to local government, she worked as a political adviser in land use planning prior to becoming a middle manager with Brisbane City Council. Whilst heading up the Sustainability Unit and the Sustainable Transport Unit she obtained a Graduate Diploma in Regional and Urban Planning.
In 2003, Helen was selected to represent Dutton Park Ward to replace Councillor Tim Quinn and serve on Civic Cabinet as Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee.
In 2008, Helen was elected as Councillor for The Gabba Ward. Helen currently sits on Council's Environment, Parks and Sustainability Committee as Opposition Spokesperson, and the Public and Active Transport Committee.
Helen believes that the ‘personal is political’, commutes by bicycle whenever possible, and has adapted her inner city home to be as sustainable as possible.
