Resume and cover letter

Brisbane City Council’s recruitment and selection process is based on equity and merit. This means that when you apply for any position, you will be judged on your:

  • abilities
  • skills
  • qualifications
  • experience

Your resume

The resume is your advertisement and should contain details of your:

  • education
  • training
  • employment history
  • experience

Make sure you ‘tailor’ your resume to the job you are applying for. Emphasise experience that relates to the position.

It is easier to continually update your resume than to start from scratch each time. Get into the habit of checking it every six months. It will be easier to remember initiatives and achievements if you update regularly.

There is no perfect way to set out your resume. It should be easy to read using:

  • consistent fonts and type size
  • highlight selected text in bold
  • underline points to make then stand out
