Apprenticeships

Brisbane City Council’s nationally recognised apprentice program can help you build a successful trades career.

Program structure

Your apprenticeship will combine hands-on learning and structured training. When you complete the apprenticeship, you’ll be a qualified tradesperson with training in a range of extra skills like leadership and communication that will help you in the workplace.

Types of apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are determined on a yearly basis. The following apprenticeships are examples of what may be available:

  • automotive electrical
  • boilermaking
  • coach building
  • electrical
  • fitting and turning
  • heavy vehicle mechanical
  • horticulture
  • sign manufacture
  • spray painting

Apprenticeship vacancies change from year to year so Council doesn't necessarily recruit all of these trades every year.

Register for job alerts to be notified of all apprenticeship vacancies as soon as they become available.

Education requirements

All trades - you must have completed Year 10 with a pass in maths and English.

Electrical apprenticeship - you must be doing or have completed Year 12 with at least a pass (or equivalent) in maths, English and physics; or a current completed pre-vocational course.
