Flood risk management involves assessing and managing flood risks to reduce the risks to people and property.

Council and flood risk management

Brisbane City Council is committed to managing and reducing the risks of flooding to ensure our city remains safe and liveable.

Brisbane and flooding

Brisbane is built on a floodplain which means we will never be able to prevent flooding.

Brisbane needs to be a city that lives comfortably with and manages the risk of, flooding - ensuring that flooding is expected, designed and planned for. With modern technology and ongoing flood modelling, we are able to better understand risk and respond appropriately.

We all have a role to play in managing the impacts of flooding in our city. Use the Flood Awareness Maps to understand your flood risk and learn how you can be prepared with the Flooding in Brisbane – guide for residents, or if you are a business owner – the Flooding in Brisbane – guide for businesses.
