Beams Road upgrade project - construction update

Construction activities have commenced on Beams Road. Demolition works and vegetation clearing have been completed and you will now start to notice changes to the traffic arrangements.

What works are coming up?

  • Utility upgrades – works to upgrade power and communications services (Energex , Telstra, NBN and other comunications) have commenced and will continue between Lacey Road and Balcara Avenue. Trenching and drilling activities to install new services are currently underway and will continue for a major portion of the project.
  • Night works – night works will include:
    • line marking on Beams Road and Dorville Road for upcoming traffic changes (see below)
    • upgrading Energex services at the Bangalore Street intersection
    • upgrading storm water infrastructure on the southern side of Beams Road between Cowie Road and Tullamore Street.
  • First traffic switch – you will notice traffic changes from 27 November including reducing Beams Road to a single lane in each direction to facilitate works in the centre of the road, including demolishing the Dorville Road roundabout and traffic islands, earthworks, pavement construction, and road lighting installations.
  • The traffic switch will change turning movements for driveways within the work site to left in and left out only, most of these changes will remain in place as part of the projects safety upgrades.

When will this work take place?

Day works7am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, weather and site conditions permitting.
Night works

Commencing Monday 27 November 2023 for approximately four weeks.
7pm to 5.30am Sunday to Thursday, weather and site conditions permitting.

What does this mean to me?

  • Night works: night works are only scheduled when necessary to maximise safety for road users and workers. Mitigation measures include:
    • completion of noisy works prior to 11pm where possible.
    • reduced use of noisy plant and equipment
    • use of white noise 'reverse beepers' on plant and equipment.
  • Traffic changes: reduced speed limits, lane closures and changes to traffic flow are expected. Plan ahead and allow additional travel time throughout the area.
  • Pedestrian detours: pedestrian detours will be in place throughout the work area, please follow the direction of signage and traffic controllers.
  • Bus stop relocations: temporary bus stop relocations will be necessary within the project area.  Signage will direct bus users to the new bus stop locations.
  • Noise, dust and vibration: construction may generate noise, dust, and vibrations which could impact nearby residents. Council's contractor will take steps to minimise these disruptions in the surrounding area.

There will be no construction for the Christmas period from 22 December 2023 to 8 January 2024. Please continue to follow site signage when travelling throughout the area.
