Rates relief

If you are having difficulty paying your rate account by the due date, making an arrangement to pay by instalments is a good way to reduce the debt over time. Please Contact Council if you would like to discuss your account.

Independent Rates Relief Tribunal

Ratepayers who are suffering genuine financial hardship may be eligible to apply for assistance from the Independent Rates Relief Tribunal.

Applications are considered with a view to providing rates relief or other assistance to ratepayers experiencing difficulty meeting basic living expenses. This may be a result of illness, long-term unemployment or the death of a partner.

Property owners who do not reside at the property, own more than one property, receive a pensioner rebate or have the property listed for sale are ineligible to apply. Commercial/industrial properties, multiple dwellings and vacant land are also excluded.

It is recommended you contact Council on 3403 8888 to discuss your specific circumstances before submitting an application. To apply, please complete the application form and submit it as an attachment via email. Alternatively, you can print and post it to IRRT, GPO Box 1434, Brisbane, Qld, 4001.

All relevant information must be attached, including proof of income, mortgage statements, taxation Notices of Assessment and other relevant documentation. Lodging an application does not release the ratepayer from their obligation to pay rates.
