Urban renewal planning areas

Established in 1991 as the Urban Renewal Taskforce, URB began its activities in Brisbane’s inner north-east targeting five suburbs (730 hectares) for renewal – Fortitude Valley, New Farm, Teneriffe, Newstead and Bowen Hills. Today, these suburbs offer some of the city’s most desirable and iconic destinations.

Urban renewal plans have now been generated for more than 1000 hectares of prime inner-city land. Current planning areas include:

Community engagement framework

Urban Renewal Brisbane uses a community engagement framework when developing neighbourhood plans or undertaking projects. This allows a consistent but flexible approach and ensures that the views of the community are heard by Council.

  • integrates the community into plan-making and project management processes
  • maintains transparency and flexibility
