Priority Infrastructure Plan
Brisbane City Council has adopted the Brisbane Priority Infrastructure Plan 2011 (PIP) based on the framework in the Sustainable Planning Act 2009. The PIP comes into effect on 6 January 2012 and is part of the City Plan 2000.
The PIP is a long-term citywide plan for infrastructure that integrates with land use planning. It’s one of the ways Council is working to manage Brisbane’s growth and plan for our city’s future infrastructure needs.
The PIP predicts the infrastructure Brisbane will need over the next 15 to 20 years to service its growing population and support healthy, well-functioning neighbourhoods. It identifies trunk infrastructure across five networks:
- Transport Network
- Stormwater Network
- Community Purposes Network
- Water Supply Network
- Sewerage Network
Council owns and maintains the stormwater, transport and community purposes networks while the water supply and sewerage networks are owned and operated by Queensland Urban Utilities.
The PIP will support Council in meeting Brisbane’s future infrastructure needs by encouraging growth in areas where appropriate infrastructure already exists or can be efficiently provided.
It will enable Council to condition identified trunk infrastructure as part of the development approval process and assist Council in managing its extensive capital works program by identifying and planning for the delivery of trunk infrastructure over the long-term.
You can read or download the PIP in the City Plan 2000.
Note: The Brisbane City Plan 2000 is undergoing a review and will be replaced by the new City Plan. Once this process has been completed, the PIP will be updated to incorporate the latest information.
