Self-assessable development - no development application but comply with rules
Certain types of projects do not need a development application but must comply with Brisbane City Council’s rules, including applicable codes. These projects are referred to as ‘self-assessable’.
Whether a project is self-assessable does depend on the zone of your property and whether the property is subject to other codes or restrictions.
Do a property enquiry search on your street address to find out the zone, other constraints for your property and whether your property is within a local plan area.
Local plan codes do not automatically apply to self-assessable development. They only apply if the local plan specifically states that the code is applicable to self-assessable development.
Possible self-assessable projects
| Project type | Code it must comply with |
|---|---|
| House | House Code |
| Home business | Home Business Code |
| Park | Park Code |
| Farm | Farm Code |
| Industry | Industrial Amenity and Performance Code |

A proposal will be self-assessable and will not require a development application if it complies with the:
- definition for that use

- specified acceptable solutions in the ‘primary’ code - no other codes in Chapter 5 will be used in assessing the proposal
- specified acceptable solutions in any relevant local plan code
Development may also be subject to the requirements of relevant local laws and may require building approval.
