Types of applications
Code assessable
Some projects are straightforward and fit within the ‘rules’ (Codes) of City Plan. These projects are 'code assessable' and can be assessed relatively quickly. 'Notifiable code' applications are publically notified to obtain community views on a proposal.
Impact assessable
Others are more complex and are classified as 'impact assessable'. This means we need to examine them in more detail with input from the community before making a decision to approve or reject the application.
Impact assessable projects are assessed by a team of specialists employed by Brisbane City Council, including planners, engineers, architects and landscape architects. In the case of a particularly complicated or contentious project, additional specialists are called in to assist.
Community submissions
For notifiable code and impact assessable projects, Council also takes into account submissions from the community. Note that notifiable code submitters do not have appeal rights under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.
