Commercial vehicle parking and permits
You may need a commercial vehicle parking permit to use a commercial loading zone.
Here is all the information you will need to apply for commercial vehicle permit:
Guidelines
You can use a commercial loading zone for up to 20 minutes without a permit, if you’re:
- a taxi or limousine driver picking up or dropping off passengers
- driving a commercial vehicle that is loading or unloading goods
- driving a dual cab utility
A commercial vehicle parking permit is needed for:
- passenger only vehicles
- taxi and limousine drivers waiting for passengers
- other vehicles not listed above
The permit must be clearly displayed on the windscreen. A good place is above the registration label.
How to apply
To apply for a commercial vehicle permit form you can:

- visit Council and complete the application form
- contact Council to have an application form mailed to you

All questions on the form must be answered. If the permit is to be registered in a company name, an authorised company officer must sign the application.
Lodging the application form
Application forms can be lodged:
- at a Customer Service Centre (permit will be mailed to you) or Regional Business Centre (permit issued on the spot)
- by mailing the form and either a cheque or money order with the applicable fee to:

Replacement permits
A replacement permit can be issued when the:
- permit has been lost or stolen and will be put back onto the same vehicle
- vehicle holding the permit is being replaced
You need to complete a commercial vehicle application form, tick the replacement permit box and note the existing permit number in the relevant section on the form.

A replacement permit fee applies.
Contact Council for an interim number while you wait for the replacement permit. Once you receive this number, write it on an A4 piece of paper and place it on the car’s dashboard.
Refunds
You can get a pro-rata refund (based on the number of days remaining on the permit) by:
- writing a letter and returning the label to:

Transfers
Permits can only be transferred under the permit holder's details if the permit holder:
- buys a new vehicle and sells the old vehicle; or
- exchanges the vehicle under a lease
You must:
- return the original permit
- complete a new application form and tick the 'transfer' box

Fees
All fees are GST exempt and valid from 1 July 2012.

* Daily rate and new application fee applies for each application for a minimum of seven calendar days to a maximum of 365 calendar days.
