Parking zones
In Brisbane there are different types of parking zones, signs and regulations. You should always check traffic area signs to avoid being fined or having your car towed for illegal parking.
Passenger set down and pick up zones
Passenger set down and pick up zones are available in the city. The locations of these zones can change over time, so you must check local signs to make sure you do not park illegally.
You can view passenger set down and pick up zones on Brisbane City Council's My Neighbourhood map.
On the 'map layers' tab (left side) under 'show/hide layers':
- Click the '+' next to 'parking'.
- Select 'loading zones city centre.'

Special use zones
Don't park in zones signed for special use. These signed zones are for taxis, emergency vehicles and mail vehicles.
Work zones
Work zones are for authorised building construction vehicles only.
Disability zones
Australian Disability Parking Scheme permit holders
Australian Disability Parking Scheme permit holders (both individual and organisation) in Queensland are entitled to park in:
- any space provided for a person with a disability in an on-street or off-street parking location, for example, shopping centres, hospitals
- Council metered or regulated parking areas free of charge for the following periods where the time limit specified by a sign is:
- less than 30 minutes, the permit holder is allowed to park for 30 minutes in Queensland
- 30 minutes or more, the permit holder is allowed to park for an unlimited amount of time in Queensland
However, you are not entitled to park in restricted parking zones (for example, clearways, no stopping, loading zones and bus zones). You can pick up or set down a passenger for two minutes in a passenger loading zone.
For more information about the Australian Disability Parking Scheme, refer to the Department of Transport and Main Roads website.
Red permit holders
Queensland Disability Parking Permit red permit holders can use off-street disability parking (for example, shopping centres, hospitals), but not on-street disability parking bays. Disability parking permits are issued by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
Loading zones (commercial vehicles)
You can use a 'commercial loading zone' for up to 20 minutes without a permit, if you are:
- driving a commercial vehicle that is loading or unloading goods. A commercial vehicle is one that has been constructed, fitted or equipped for the carriage of goods (for example, a ute or truck). A passenger vehicle becomes a commercial vehicle if the back seats and seatbelts have been removed. It is irrelevant what the vehicle is registered as with the Department of Transport and Main Roads
- driving a dual cab utility that is loading or unloading goods
A taxi or limousine driver can use a loading zone to pick up or drop off passengers.
Other types of vehicles are not permitted to use commercial vehicle loading zones unless they obtain a commercial vehicle permit.
