CityCat & Ferry terminal reconstruction
Following the January 2011 flood, Brisbane City Council had a massive job to recover and restore Brisbane's CityCat and CityFerry services.
To return service as soon as possible, seriously damaged terminals were replaced with temporary terminals built to pre-flood standards.
Council has since been awarded $70 million from the federal and state governments through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) to rebuild these temporary terminals with permanent facilities with improved flood resilience.
Council is currently working on detailed designs for the terminals and construction is expected to commence in 2013, subject to approval.
Locations
New terminals with improved flood resilience will replace temporary terminals at the following seven locations:
- The University of Queensland, St Lucia
- Regatta, Toowong
- North Quay, CBD
- Maritime Museum (formerly known as River Plaza), South Brisbane
- QUT Gardens Point, CBD
- Holman Street, Kangaroo Point
- Sydney Street, New Farm
Two new CityCat moorings will be reconstructed at:
- The University of Queensland, St Lucia
- Dutton Park
Design for the new terminals
The new design by Cox Rayner, Derlot, Aurecon will provide the template for the new terminals. The design group has now been contracted to work with Council on the detailed terminal designs for each location.
The design concept is cutting-edge, integrating technical innovation, flood resilience and elegant form to deliver terminals that will become iconic features of our river city.
The new design also features improved accessibility for all passengers, including the elderly and people with a disability, and will provide better connectivity with other public transport services around each site.
