The Sylvan Road on-road cycle improvement project is part of Lord Mayor Graham Quirk's commitment to provide $100 million in new bikeway infrastructure over four years.

About the project
The project will include:
- installing and extending traffic islands in Land Street and in Sylvan Road at the Milton Road intersection to provide safer crossings and refuge for cyclists and pedestrians
- relocating traffic island and signal poles at the Jephson Street and Croydon Street intersections with Sylvan Road
- footpath works and installing bike ramps to provide stand up areas for cyclists and pedestrians
- new on-road bicycle line markings and improvements to existing markings
- upgrading the Bennetts Street intersection to include building out kerb and channel to reduce crossing width, changing traffic line markings to reduce lane split
- changing Miskin Street to include new kerb build out and stormwater inlet relocation and new bicycle ramp including relocation of power pole
- upgrading the Croydon Street intersection to include the cutback of traffic island and relocation of signal pole to increase width for cycle lanes and green markings
- rationalising two bus stops on Sylvan Road (one located at Bennetts Street and one at Earl Lane) in to one stop at the existing Earl Lane site
- installing a partially indented bus bay and relocation of street lights opposite Earl Lane on the northern side of Sylvan Road
- resealing and remarking Sylvan Road (from Croydon Street to the rail overpass), with lane widths and parking widths reduced to desirable minimum standard
- other civil works including relocation of power poles
