About the project

Brisbane City Council has updgraded the Beenleigh Road, Mains Road and Pinelands Road intersection at Sunnybank.

The intersection was identified as an accident black spot and the upgrade has improved safety for all road users.

The upgrade was funded through the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program.

The Beenleigh, Mains and Pinelands Roads black spot intersection improvement involved:

  • realigning pedestrian crossings, shortening centre islands and removing pedestrian fences and push buttons in the centre medians so all crossings are continuous (not staged)
  • realigning the left turn slip-lane from Mains Road to Beenleigh Road to improve motorist visibility of oncoming vehicles
  • extending the right-turn pocket on the western Beenleigh Road approach to increase storage capacity
  • new line marking to improve the alignment of turning movements.

Benefits

These improvements have delivered:

  • improved motorist visibility of pedestrians and oncoming vehicles
  • continuous pedestrian crossings on all legs
  • increased storage capacity for vehicles turning right from Beenleigh Road into Pinelands Road.
