Goggs Road signalised pedestrian crossing

Brisbane City Council has installed a signalised pedestrian crossing on Goggs Road at Jindalee to provide safer access between residential properties on the eastern side and commercial businesses located on the western side.

Summary

Address Goggs Road, Jindalee
Ward Jamboree
Project outcome To improve safety for pedestrians crossing Goggs Road
Latest update Construction is now complete.

About the project

Traffic on Goggs Road has increased significantly since the opening of DFO Jindalee in 2007. The road now carries more than 10,000 vehicles per day. Goggs Road also provides a key link for pedestrians between residential homes, local shops, Homemaker City and Jindalee Tavern.

Local residents have been asking Council to improve pedestrian crossing facilities on the road since 2008. In response, Council made several improvements to pedestrian refuges on the road and has now also installed a signalised crossing.

Feedback results

Council received a great response from the local community during the feedback period.

A summary of feedback received is as follows:

  • 53% of respondents preferred option two due to the need to maintain right turns from Homemaker City and Windermere Village/Creative Centre and with the view to ensure traffic congestion was not increased long term
  • 26% of respondents preferred option one (at the existing refuge) namely for convenience reasons
  • 13% of respondents proposed alternative options including installing traffic signals at one or both Homemaker City entrances and installing painted zebra crossings
  • 8% of respondents did not believe a crossing was required

Benefits

The project had improved safety for pedestrians crossing Goggs Road.
