Higher than normal high tides expected Tuesday 19 February 2019 to Thursday 21 February 2019

Brisbane City Council wishes to advise that higher than normal high tides may be experienced in foreshore (low-lying areas near the coast) and riverside locations on Tuesday 19 February 2019 through to Thursday 21 February 2019.

The Queensland Tide tables provided by the Bureau of Meteorology advise:

  • A predicted tide peak of 2.73 metres (1.49 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 09:26am on Tuesday.
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.76 metres (1.52 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 10:13am on Wednesday.
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.72 metres (1.48 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 10:57am on Thursday.

Please note that due to current meteorological conditions a tidal anomaly may cause these tide peaks to be higher than predicted.

These high tides are expected to be similar to the high tides experienced on 20-22 August 2017.

Minor localised flooding may be experienced in bayside, riverside and low-lying parts of nearby suburbs. Areas connected to foreshore, and tide-affected areas of the river, creeks and other waterways may also be affected.

Residents in areas prone to localised flooding due to high tides are advised to avoid parking their cars on the street during these times.

If required, sandbags are available for collection from the following locations:

  • Darra - 38 Shamrock Road, Darra
  • Morningside - 9 Redfern Street, Morningside
  • Newmarket - 66 Wilston Road (in carpark off Erneton Street), Newmarket
  • Zillmere - 33 Jennings Street, Zillmere
  • Lota - Herbert Street, Lota.
