Open Data

Brisbane City Council releases Open Data to the public free of charge to encourage third parties to develop apps, website and tools that can benefit Brisbane residents and businesses.

Council’s Open Data initiative is a fundamental component to ensure we continue to be a Smart, Connected Brisbane.

Open Data website

Through the Brisbane Open Data website, Council has released more than 400 datasets that are re-usable, accessible and shareable. These datasets are available in a variety of formats and cover a wide range of topics including public transport, planning, environment, infrastructure and spatial data. A dedicated spatial data website allows for easy navigation and access to Council’s spatial data sets such as stormwater infrastructure and Brisbane City Plan 2014 data.

If you are interested in using Council data but can’t find what you’re looking for, you can make a suggestion using the ‘Suggest a dataset’ page.

All data is released under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license, meaning anyone is free to distribute, remix and build on the data as long as Brisbane City Council is credited as the provider of the data. As the developers retain complete ownership of their intellectual property, they are free to use Council data for commercial applications as they please.

Customised census profiles

You can also access information about Brisbane wards and suburbs to find out about the people who live in an area, the workers and business that operate in the area or how the area has changed over time. This information is available via the online Community Profiles tool.
