Owing to its rich multicultural history, Semarang hosts a number of historic colonial and cultural buildings including Lawang Sewu (formerly the Dutch East Indies Railway Company), Gereja Blenduk (Blenduk Church) and Gedong Batu Temple (Sam Poo Kong – the oldest Chinese temple in Semarang). Semarang's Old Town is considered one of the best-preserved colonial cities.
