Improving transport options

Brisbane buses

Brisbane City Council is committed to delivering Australia’s most modern public and active transport network, and is proud to announce a range of innovative updates to its riding and bus transport options. These updates will make public and active transport journeys easier and more enjoyable for residents and visitors.

Cycling Brisbane’s launch in 2014 included a route planner tool that was developed by a third party using open source data. While the route planner proved very popular, the crowd-sourced information in the planner was often out of date, prompting the Cycling Brisbane team to develop a more accurate and user-friendly version.

Cycling Brisbane’s newly updated route planner allows users to plan their journey from A to B and select preferences such as flat/hilly and bikeways/roads.

The route planner also includes bike parking and drinking fountain locations, CityCycle docking stations and real-time availability, and information on Cycling Brisbane partners who offer members a range of deals and discounts.

Riders can plan their route in advance, giving them confidence to calculate the most direct, convenient or enjoyable route to their destination before they leave home.

In more transport news, Council has introduced USB charging points across its latest fleet of buses, helping passengers stay safe and connected while travelling on its bus network. Charging points are placed at comfortable heights and locations throughout the bus, so passengers can easily charge their devices while commuting.

Standard buses have been fitted with 16 charging points, accessible via eight double charging ports, while banana buses have 26 charging ports accessible via 13 double charging ports.

The introduction of these points not only meets the demand for digital connectivity, but also ensures passengers feel safer and more comfortable knowing they can charge their device at any time. The addition of charging points to a fleet that is already 100% air conditioned and accessible contributes to making Brisbane buses Australia’s most modern fleet.
