Types of apprenticeships
As an apprentice auto electrician you will install, maintain and repair electrical wiring and computer-based equipment for Council buses. Tasks include testing, replacing, reconditioning and installing equipment including alternators, starter motors and batteries and repairing or replacing fault ignitions, electrical wiring, fuses, lamps and switches with specialist tools and machines.
Heavy vehicle mechanics
As a heavy motor vehicle mechanic apprentice you will service, repair, tune, maintain and test the mechanical components of buses including engines, transmissions and suspension systems. You will also diagnose and detect mechanical and electrical faults, repair and maintain hydraulic/pneumatic components and use welding, hand fitting or machining processes to replace or repair faulty parts.
As an automotive manufacturing apprentice you will manufacture framework sections in metal, fibreglass and other materials, design and fit mechanised equipment, use shaping, cutting and welding equipment, design and carry out chassis alterations in consultation with engineers, and alter assembly line vehicles to accommodate special requirements.
Signage and graphics
As a signage and graphics apprentice you will be involved in the computer generating and printing of art and graphics, sign manufacture and installation, and the application of vinyl wraps to Council buses and vehicles.
