Brisbane's free BMX workshops help kids ride to success
Chloe discovered a new passion through Council's cycling workshops and is now the under 11 Girls National Champion.
At just 10 years old, Riverhills local Chloe has already made her mark on the BMX freestyle scene.
Last year, she rode away with the U/11 Girls National Championship on the Gold Coast. She then won the Oceania Championship in Brisbane just weeks later.
But Chloe’s journey didn’t begin on a podium. It began with no experience — just curiosity.
Discovering a new passion through Council workshops
After joining a Wheely Fun workshop in Cycling Brisbane’s free skills program, Chloe discovered a sport she loved.
“I wanted to try out the workshops, and it was really fun. A lot of the people involved were so supportive, so I started doing it even more,” Chloe says.
That first workshop changed everything. She met her future coach, Pete, who immediately saw her potential.
From there, Chloe began attending more Council sessions, including the BMX with the Best event. She even joined a Council mountain bike workshop with her dad and brother.
From pump tracks to podiums
Training at some of Brisbane’s best local spots, Chloe quickly found her stride. These include the Darra pump track, Jindalee Skatepark, and the BMX dirt jumps at Newcomb Park.
Coach Pete has watched her progression from complete beginner to national champion.
“Council providing a free program for you to come and understand how it all works, as well as developing a love of BMX for life - that’s fantastic value,” Pete says.
“Chloe’s put the apprenticeship in and done four years of hard work. She’s gone from learning to ride all the way through to National Champion.
“If you’re thinking about it and you’re on the fence, come and give it a go. These workshops are a perfect example that anybody can do freestyle BMX if you’re prepared to work for it.
At the 2025 National Championships, Chloe delivered two strong one‑minute runs. She showcased her renowned bike control and claimed the title with her winning trick - a clean no‑footer. She earned the top combined score in her division.
Despite her early success, Chloe remains grounded and focused.
“I hope I go to the Olympics,” she says. “But we’re going to see if that happens. I’m just going to push myself and make sure I try my best.”
Her next challenge is the 2026 National Championships in Melbourne. She is already back on the bike, building confidence and refining her skills.
