Assemble your crew! Here are 11 fun things to do in Brisbane after dark.
Let’s face it, it’s easy to fall into a rut when planning a night out. Thankfully, Brisbane has loads of fun and quirky ‘date night’ and ’mate night’ options that are anything but ordinary. So, if you're looking for something to do that’s more than just dinner and drinks, read on for some of the city’s best sunset and after dark experiences.
Flaunt your culinary skills and get crafty in the kitchen by joining an evening cooking class. Vanilla Zulu at Teneriffe offers rustic Italian, authentic Thai, sophisticated French, and authentic Middle Eastern classes. The best part? You get to eat what you create, so make sure you wear your stretchy pants!
If you’re looking for things to do, Brisbane Distillery Company in West End holds masterclasses for the gin connoisseur. Let your creative side run wild and choose from over 140 botanicals to create your one-of-a-kind mix.
When the sun sets, Victoria Park’s 18-hole putt putt course lights up. Challenge your friends to a round of late-night mini golf and battle it out over sand and water traps, a swinging pole and the infamous ’heart-break hill’. It’s fully licensed and open late on Friday and Saturday nights, which makes for a great before or after dinner option. Garden Golf Putt Putt at St Lucia is Brisbane's newest course and has loads of curves, hills, slopes and bends that will also test your skills.
No need to venture to the Hunter Valley or Barossa for an authentic cellar door experience. City Winery in Fortitude Valley is Brisbane’s first urban winery in more than 160 years. Taste your way through fine drops made on site, or join a wine blending workshop, lunch tour or wine and food pairing experience. The choice is simply delicious!
If laughter is the best medicine, Brisbane’s comedy scene is just what the doctor ordered. For a fun night out, The Sit Down Comedy Club at Paddington will have you and your crew in stitches, with local, national and international performers busting out their best jokes in a new show every week. For no holds barred stand-up check out the Good Chat Comedy Club in Petrie Terrace, which plugs itself as bringing audiences fresh new acts, atmosphere and absolute mayhem.
Get to know the city after dark with a fun and informative Brisbane Greeters night tour. Don your walking shoes to discover some of the best places to drink, dine and unwind in the CBD, while your friendly guide shares stories about Brisbane’s fascinating history. Tours are free and cover some well-known (and lesser known) night spots including Brisbane’s laneways, Eagle Street Pier, Queens Wharf, City Botanic Gardens and more. They wrap up early too, so you’ll have plenty of time to revisit your favourite stops or explore a new destination afterwards.
Grab a couple of mates, or that special someone, and watch the sun go down over the city from one of Brisbane’s many vantage points. Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park offers a spectacular city backdrop and is the perfect spot to roll out a rug for a riverside picnic. BYO or boost your picnic with a lavish set-up from professionals like The Picnic Co. The Mt Coot-tha Lookout is another great date night option, with vistas stretching across Brisbane and beyond. The Summit Café is open late on weekends for anyone feeling peckish.
Whether you’ve been in Brisbane for a decade or a day, chances are you've visited South Bank Parklands at least once. Brisbane’s iconic riverside parkland is famous for its restaurants and bars, but there’s so much more to discover. For something different, grab your crew and hit up the Collective Markets for a spot of late-night shopping. The markets take over Stanley Street Plaza on Friday and Saturday nights with an eclectic mix of fashion, photography and gifts. You can also catch a show at QPAC, or ride the Wheel of Brisbane for spectacular city views. There’s even the option to book a VIP gondola (complete with bubbles) for your next romantic date night.
For an adventure with uninterrupted views, trek to the top of Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge. The twilight Story Bridge Adventure Climb is the most popular option, and once you’re up there it’s easy to see why. From the 80-metre summit, you’ll have a 360-degree panorama of the city as the sun sets and the bridge lights illuminate. For adventure-seekers, there’s the option to add the Cantilever Lean Out for an exhilarating experience that will have you suspended 50-metres above the bridge with nothing but air between you and the traffic below. There’s also the option of a night climb for a complete after dark experience.
Pump up the volume with QAGOMA’s signature Up Late events, which brings life to the Gallery’s major exhibitions after hours. Wander through iconic spaces and jam along to live music performances and DJ sets while you sip on drinks from one of the pop-up bars. There’s also dining options and talks by artists and curators to inspire your creative side. Each event revolves around a different exhibition and fills up fast, so book ahead.
