Known for its natural bushland, Parkinson is loved for its parks, perfect for outdoor leisure and relaxation. You’ll also find plentiful shopping options, including authentic Asian restaurants, and a lush nursery to inspire garden lovers.
For a family-friendly taste sensation, Parkinson’s Pho Ever Taste offers Vietnamese and Chinese meals bursting with flavour. Fill your plate with your choice of stir fries, noodles, rice dishes, phos and tasty vegetarian meals. Next door, in Algester, Café in Tokyo is a must for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Choose from two mouth-watering menus - the café menu has all-day options for both Japanese and Aussie breakfasts, while the Japanese menu has all your favourites, including fresh sushi and sashimi.
For a big day out, head to the generously spaced Greenways Esplanade Park. Pack a picnic or snags sourced locally from nearby fresh food retailers to cook on the BBQs and let the kids burn off some energy in the two shade-sail covered playgrounds. Bring scooters and bikes for a Brissy adventure on the 200-metre cycle track featuring traffic signage and miniature landmarks, including the Gateway Bridge, CBD precinct and Brisbane River. Get in on the fun at the cricket nets, table tennis table, basketball half-court and BMX track. Fur-children are also welcome at the fenced off-leash area with play and training obstacles.
Leave the car at home and ride to Greenways Esplanade Park, where you can give your bike some TLC at the park’s bike repair station before you keep exploring. Follow the cycle path north to the leafy Parkinson Recreation Reserve or head east to Billabong Place Park and take five by the duck pond.
If you’re closer to Algester, check out Col Bennett Park, a must-do for anyone who enjoys keeping active and healthy. The Parkinson-Algester bikeway runs through the park where you’ll also find two playgrounds, a basketball half-court, rebound wall and exercise trail. For shady play, hit Timberland Park’s wooden fort playground and the traffic track that’s perfect for scooters and bikes.
Templex Nursery on Beaudesert Road in Algester is a gardener’s paradise. Find everything you need fill to the gaps in your yard, from sensitive shade plants and hardy natives to fruit trees and herbs – there’s even a collection of pots and soils. But it’s the colourful handmade sculptures of all shapes and sizes littered throughout the nursery that will delight and inspire you. The sculptures are not for sale, but they make shopping for plants feel like a stroll through a botanic gallery.
