About the project

Brisbane City Council is undertaking rehabilitation works to Drewvale Dam located off Randwick Place in Drewvale. The works will rehabilitate the existing site into a wetland and nature reserve to accommodate wildlife and improve the ecological conditions of the area.

Works will involve draining water from the dam, earthworks, refilling the new waterway and landscaping.

Timing

The works are anticipated to commence in mid-April 2021 and be completed by early July 2021. Works will be undertaken from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm, with limited Saturday works as required.

Construction impacts

A site compound and laydown area for the storage of construction equipment will be located at the end of Randwick Place. Construction vehicles will access the work area via Randwick Place and Mirthwood Drive.

Residents in close proximity to the work area may experience some construction noise, minor dust, low levels of vibration and increased vehicle movement in the surrounding streets.

Council will use environmental controls and make every effort to minimise disruptions.

Tree removals

Council has identified a number of trees that need to be removed as part of the project. Council is committed to minimising the impact on the environment where possible. The trees being removed have been identified as posing a fire safety risk or are impacting the stability of the embankment.

The tree removal has been assessed in accordance with Council Natural Areas Local Law and will be offset through planting 130 native trees in the area. In addition, over 10,300 plants will be planted on the wetland as part of this project.

All work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant environmental guidelines and Council will make every effort to minimise environmental impacts during construction. Council’s contractor will engage a fauna spotter during required tree removal works.
