Reducing waste in parenthood through reusable nappies

Becoming a parent is an opportunity to learn new ways to reduce waste and support a clean, green and sustainable Brisbane. For many new parents, thinking about the kind of future environment we want our children to enjoy provides extra motivation for adopting positive waste behaviours at home.

Each year, Brisbane residents dispose of more than 12,000 tonnes of disposable nappies. Disposable nappies are non-recyclable, resource-intensive and estimated to take up to 500 years to break down.

Sustainable Nappy Cashback

This program will be discontinued from 30 June 2022.

The program generated significant awareness around reusable nappies and other sustainable options and achieved the goal of helping parents reduce their waste to landfill.

Brisbane City Council launched the Sustainable Nappy Cashback to help more parents on their journey to reduce waste.

Choosing to use modern cloth nappy products (even if only part of the time) can be a great way to save money while also helping the environment.

As part of the Sustainable Nappy Cashback, Brisbane residents are able to enter into a monthly draw to win back their investment in reusable nappy products (up to $300 value). Two further runners-up prizes of $50 are also awarded.

The purpose of the Sustainable Nappy Cashback is to encourage more parents to make the change from disposable nappies. Additionally, the program assists to generate discussion about the benefits of using modern reusable nappy products or services and acknowledges the efforts of parents who are choosing to reuse.

Enter the monthly draw

Any Brisbane resident who has purchased modern cloth nappy products (or other eligible item/s as per the terms and conditions) within the previous six months, is able to submit an entry. To enter, simply provide your details on the online form and attach your receipt as proof of purchase.
