2020 Lord Mayor's Australia Day Awards

The 2020 Lord Mayor's Australia Day Awards recognise Brisbane’s unsung heroes. The awards pay tribute to the people in our community who have gone above and beyond to help improve the lives of others and enhance our city. Nominations are now open.

Award categories

The 2020 Lord Mayor's Australia Day Awards are open for nomination until 5pm on Monday 4 November 2019, and include the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Australia Day Cultural/Arts Award
  • Australia Day Sports Award
  • Australia Day Achievement Awards
  • Green Heart Award

Eligibility

All nominees must be Australian citizens and reside within the City of Brisbane at the time of nomination.

Citizen of the Year

Nominees must be 31 years of age or older as of 26 January 2020.

Senior Citizen of the Year

Nominees must be 60 years of age or older as of 26 January 2020.

Young Citizen of the Year

Nominees must be 30 years of age or younger as of 26 January 2020.

Community Event of the Year

Nominated events must have been held in Brisbane during the 2019 calendar year.

Australia Day Cultural/Arts Award

No age limitation for nominees.

Australia Day Sports Award

No age limitation for nominees.

Australia Day Achievement Awards

No age limitation for nominees.

Green Heart Award

If nominating an individual, nominees must be over 18 years of age as of 26 January 2020.

If nominating an organisation, the nominated organisation must have two or more members.

Selection criteria

The Lord Mayor’s Australia Day Awards recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution to their local community in a voluntary capacity.

Please outline why you think this person, organisation or event is deserving of this award. Include the number of years the nominee has provided volunteering services or the number of years the event has been held. Your response must be between 200-1000 words.

You may provide up to three supporting documents to assist the judges in making their decision. This can include personal references, photographs, samples of work, portfolios and articles.

Please do not supply originals of supporting documentation as Council will retain all documentation.

Alternatively, scan or take a clear photograph of your completed paper nomination form, along with your 200-1000 words selection criteria and send it by email.

Nominations close at 5pm on Monday 4 November 2019.

Judging process

Nominations will be reviewed by the appointed judging panel. The judges' decisions are final and no further correspondence will be considered.
