Abbey ChurchAbbey undertook an Advanced Rigging Licence and Australian Industrial Ropes Access accreditation and mentoring support. The professional development further developed her skills in the circus rigging industry - a specialised field vital to all circus productions that include aerial components.
Aboriginal Art Co LimitedAboriginal Art Co hosted a residency program for emerging First Nations artists, based at 'The Design Bank'. The program included free access to the 'Safe Space Studio', a paid opportunity to create a new body of work, and an artist website. The project involved career development and support, professional arts and business coaching and mentorship from industry members and established artists.
Craig WilkinsonCraig completed a series of online structured learning experiences focused on upskilling in industry-leading software and playback systems technology. This professional development opportunity allowed Craig to maintain his creative practice at the global standard, which he then shared to help strengthen and grow Brisbane’s creative economy in this specialty field.
Creative Broadcasters Limited (trading as 4ZZZ Radio)4ZZZ developed a new audio storytelling education program. Students were equipped with skills for producing broadcast-quality audio documentaries and podcasts. The outcome of the project was an online and in-person learning resource which will be used multiple times a year over at least the next 5 years for training future students.
Georgia Boe (auspiced by The Trustee for The Milani Family Trust)Georgia undertook a structured learning opportunity with artist Richard Bell, as the project manager for his Embassy artwork at documenta15 in Kassel, Germany. documenta15 is a prestigious international contemporary arts exhibition. Embassy is a roving platform for First Nations dialogue, where Georgia was mentored by Richard for the entirety of the project.
M’ck McKeagueM'ck undertook three months of professional development, including a mentorship with scenography researcher, Rachel Hann (UK) and a practice-based investigation into nonbinary set and costume design. The research was presented at the World Stage Design in Calgary and panel discussions in Brisbane.
Prita Tina YeganehPrita undertook a mentorship program with an expert in cross-cultural communications and high-level project management. She developed an online communications platform to engage a broader community and share her practice. These skills and platform enabled her to appropriately communicate the cultural sensitivity of her work to revive traditional artisan fibre-art practices from her West Asian cultural heritage.
Tyrone NoonanTyrone undertook an international residency participating in a mix of structured, formal learning experiences and informal networking and mentoring activities in Los Angeles and California. This curated journey across the US is all about understanding how COVID impacted artists in the US and how they have survived, pivoted or thrived.

Aidan Hogg

Aidan undertook a week long course in France and 10-day residency at Cable Street Studios in London. The professional development opportunities will further Aidan’s skills in advanced music production, mixing, writing and collaboration.

Jonathan O'Brien

Jonathan undertook a three-month residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland. The residency will provide mentoring and research opportunities to develop Jonathan’s skills in trans-continental fiction and increase his knowledge of Irish social history.

Julian Panetta

Julian undertook a five-day masterclass in cinematography hosted by the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The masterclass will provide networking opportunities and develop Julian's skills in cinematography and management.

Kate Malone

Kate participated in residencies at three international circus venues; Tohu in Canada, Assembly in Edinburgh and the Chameleon Theatre in Berlin. The residencies will provide mentoring opportunities and develop the Kate's skills in the operational management of large circus venues and events.

Nina Wildman

Nina undertook a Master of Arts at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The two-year Masters program continues Nina's studies as a classically trained opera singer and provides skills necessary to enter the industry through access to networks and some of the world's best language and performance coaches.

Rachel Choi

Rachel undertook a month-long internship with Factory Gate Films in Beijing, China. The internship will develop Rachel’s skills in film production, expand her professional networks and provide for the development and distribution of a short documentary film.

Zenobia Frost

Zenobia participated in international professional development activities to develop a new poetry project and expand international networks in North America. Zenobia attended the New York Poetry Festival, the Frost Place Poetry Seminar and conduct research to develop her digital poetry game 'Haunt'.

Jordan AzcuneJordan undertook research in Hyderabad, India, by visiting architecturally significant places of worship and monumental sculptures to support the development of networks and skills in visual arts, public art and architectural expressions of spirituality.

Amy-Clare McCarthy

Amy-Clare undertook a seven-week program of professional development in New York, United States of America, and Bristol, England. She developed professional skills and methods to practice as a visual arts curator in Brisbane as well as increasing international networks.

Eleanor Hill

Eleanor undertook a Master of Arts, specialising in violin, at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. She will graduate from one of the world's most esteemed music institutions, providing musical training of the highest international standards.

Kieran Welch

Kieran developed a debut solo album and touring concert program by travelling to Montecito, California, to perform at the Montecito International Music Festival. He also travelled to North Adams, Massachusetts, to work with renowned violinist and producer Todd Reynolds to record and produce the album.

Lech Blaine

Lech completed a month-long residency at the Michael King Writers Centre in New Zealand to write his second book. He also completed a mentorship with prominent Brisbane writer Kristina Olsson.

Michael Smith

Michael travelled to Ukraine, Belgium, and Israel, to develop professional skills and international networks as a contemporary performer and choreographer. He conducted research and improved techniques and methods in practice by engaging with internationally renowned artists who are considered experts in their field.

Samuel Piper

Samuel undertook an intensive year-long study program in Italy to develop artistry in the Bel Canto style of operatic singing. He studied with Mr Sherman Lowe, who is a world-renowned specialist in the Bel Canto repertoire.

Sarah Hazlehurst

Sarah completed a four-week residency in the Kaalo 101 Gallery in Patan, Nepal. She was mentored by and developed her curator skills with head curator and creative director, Helena Asha Knox.

Brianna Lee

Brianna conducted research and completed a six-week workshop in manuscript development and assessment with Sackett Street Writers (New York), and from this study she developed a manuscript for her first full-length novel.

Connor D'Netto

Connor completed study at the Royal College of Music (London) and a four-month exchange at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music (New York), where he compose new music, collaborated and studied with some of the most reputable composers in the international music scene.

David Morton

David undertook a six-month program of professional development to expand his skills and develop new theatre work. His fellowship included residencies at the Natural History Museum (London), a creative mentorship with the Phantom Limb Company (New York), and attending scheduled meetings with Cirque du Soleil (Montreal).

Ellen Harrison

Ellen completed six months of study to develop her orchestral viola technique at Hanns Eisler School for Music (Berlin). She also attended a series of music camps and masterclasses to further her musical education and experience in contemporary and baroque techniques.

Jessie Hughes

Jessie undertook six weeks of professional development in contemporary art practice at the Royal College of Art and the University of Arts London (London). This study was followed by a month of training in filmmaking at the New York Film Academy (Los Angeles), where she was mentored by executive producer Annie Hanlon.

Oliver Boyd

Oliver developed his skills as an opera performer by completing a Master of Opera and Music Theatre at the Hanns Eisler School for Music (Berlin). A highlight of his fellowship was being invited to sing Gustav Mahler's Rückert Lieder as a soloist with the Berlin Youth Orchestra at Berlin's Konzerthaus.

Sophie Banister

Sophie developed her skills as a comedy writer and performer by undertaking five months of training in improvisation and sketch comedy with well-known comedy group Upright Citizens Brigade (New York).

Katherine Dionysius

Katherine completed an intensive, six-week introduction to all aspects of book, magazine and digital publishing at the Columbia Journalism School in New York, and undertook a mentorship at Swiss Institute, an independent non-profit contemporary art institution, to deepen her writing skills and grow her contemporary art networks and experiences.

Tamara Drazic

Tamara developed her writing craft and completed the first draft of her novel manuscript “Juice of Half a Lemon”, at the Gullkistan Creative Center Residency in Laugarvatn (Iceland), and undertook various public speaking opportunities at a local high school and a multicultural poetry event.

Brooke Ferguson

Brooke completed a programme of contemporary arts exploration at the Maumaus Independent Study Program in Lisbon (Portugal), and undertook further independent study in Europe producing a sound project Routes Ruins and Rhapsody and a program of new video work for a screening at Box Copy Contemporary Art Space, Brisbane.

Grace Law

Grace developed her technical skills as a circus aerialist specialising on the Corde Lisse (a vertically hanging rope) with renown artists from circus companies Ecole Nationale de Cirque and Cirque du Soleil in Montreal (Canada), and improved her knowledge of teaching circus and grew her professional networks.

Maxine Mellor

Maxine developed her knowledge and skills as a playwright, theatre maker and teacher through her participation at the Iceland Writers Retreat 2017 and explored both the United Kingdom and Iceland experiencing a diverse range of contemporary theatre and performance.

Ania Zoltkowski

Ania completed the Masters of Arts Fashion Futures program at the London College of Fashion - Design and Technology, specialising in fashion, ethics and the environment, to informed her knowledge of the ethical fashion industry and help garment workers.

Chloe Ann Williamson

Participated in the Tango for Musicians workshop at Reed College in the USA and travelled to Argentina to study and research tango music.

Louise Bennett

Undertook international artist residences, participated in an international professional artist mentorship, completed her certificate in audio post production and developed new bodies of work for an exhibition showcase in Brisbane.

Paul Hodge

Paul was mentored by Alain Boulil, writer of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon musicals in the USA. He shared the knowledge gained by giving a presentation at the Brisbane Powerhouse to Brisbane writers.

Tess Maunder

Tess participated in curatorial professional development overseas where she undertook studio residencies and was the curatorial assistant to the Raqs Media Collective.

Travelled to Germany for studies in painting with Professor Leni Hoffman at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kunst in Karlsruhe.

Raw Dance Company performed at the New York City Tap Festival. Company dancers participated in tap dance workshops with dancers from the USA, Japan, Europe and UK.

Rebecca undertook research and professional mentorship as artist-in-residence at Gozo Contemporary and St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Malta.

Phillip Stork

Phillip worked as Assistant Director for the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and with the Queensland Theatre Company. Directed a double-bill production for the Metro Arts Independents Program.

Anna Tweedale

Anna travelled to Spain and undertook the Metropolis Postgraduate Program in Architecture and Urban Culture in Barcelona.

Bryony undertook flute tuition with Felix Renggli, Professor at the Musikhochschule in Basel and Michael Cox, principal flute with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London.

Helen Cassidy

Helen studied theatre with Philippe Gaulier and other master teachers in London and Europe in physical theatre of Le Coq, Theatre de Complicite and Peter Brook.

Shen Flindell

Shen studied the tabla (Indian percussion instrument) in India under guru-ji of tabla Pt Ashutosh Bhattacharya. Worked and performed with local and international Indian classical musicians.

Jacam Manricks

Jacam travelled to New York to study the art of doubling as a saxophonist (the ability to master several instruments associated with the performer's principal instrument).

Brendan Ross

Studied directing contemporary music theatre/opera at workshops in Canada and the USA. Developed Italian language skills relevant to classical opera and attended Festival D'Avignon.

Artistic directors Lynne Bradley and Simon Woods took members of Zen Zen Zo to Japan for in-depth study of Noh, Nihon Buyo (Kabuki) and Butoh.

Lance completed postgraduate studies in the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow.

Sarah undertook tuition in voice, language and repertoire with leading coaches in New York.

Jagera Jarjum Dance Group

The group travelled to Aurukun and worked with the Indigenous community to explore traditional song and dance.

Joseph travelled to the USA and undertook advanced study of percussion technique at The Drummers Collective in New York.

David worked with Danish theatre maker Torkild Lindebjerg in Copenhagen and attended the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People world congress in Norway.

Kathryn studied as a repetiteur at the Centro Internazionale Dante Alighieri and studied harpsichord with Robert Wooley, Head of Early Music at the Royal College of Music, London.

As part of the comedy-music duo Ginger Fish, Carita completed workshops and performances in singing and theatre at the Esalen Institute, New York University and the Lincoln Center.

Jonathan travelled to India to study the tabla (Indian percussion instrument) with Sri Bharat Jangam.

Siobhan travelled to Ireland to collect Celtic myths and music and worked with Macnas Theatre Company and Druid Theatre Company.

Benjamin Vary

Benjamin completed studies in conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland.

Jessica Wilson

Jessica attended summer school at the Institute International de la Marionnette in France. Researched contemporary theatre techniques and European puppetry and visual theatre companies.
