Brisbane History Grants 2019-20 recipients

The Brisbane History Grants Program comprises two funding categories:

  1. Community History Grants
  2. The Lord Mayor’s Helen Taylor Research Award for Local History.

The following Brisbane History Grant projects were approved in 2019-20.

Four organisations received a total of $63,000.00. 

One individual received funding of $22,000.00.

The project will create a free app to enhance the visitor experience at Council's 94-year-old Sherwood Arboretum, Sherwood.

Sandgate and District Historical Society and Museum Inc

The project will develop an Interactive, local and personal history exhibit presenting Sandgate's history between the 1920s and 1950s.

The Queensland Women's Historical Association Inc

The project will document, analyse and celebrate 100 years of Brisbane's cultural life, held in the collection of the Queensland Women's Historical Association.

The Trustee for Brisbane Powerhouse Foundation

The project will document, analyse and celebrate the 1994 TrancePlant event, a pivotal Brisbane cultural event contributing to the development of Brisbane Powerhouse as an arts centre.

This project will identify the first photographers operating in Brisbane (circa 1855 to 1901) and explore the development of professional photography in the city. The project plans to produce biographies of the photographers, a physical publication, and a dedicated website Historypin.org.
