Healthy and Physical Activity Grants 2016-17 recipients

The following Healthy and Physical Activity Grant projects were approved in 2016-17.

Successful recipients receive funding for projects to increase participation in community sport, recreation and physical activity in Brisbane.

Australian Catholic University Limited A 16-week futsal competition and education program for youth from refugee and migrant backgrounds. $7,500
Afghan Students' Association UQ Auspiced by: Queensland Afghan Community Association Incorporated A fortnightly sporting gathering where participants rotate between five sporting activities (soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming lessons and martial arts). $6,600
Brisbane District Bowls Association Inc. To create a pathway for lawn bowls to be introduced into schools. $7,500
Brisbane Mens' and Womens' Basketball Association Incorporated  A weekly session of walking basketball including a warm-up, skills session, game and warm down. $9,739.82
Inala Community House To facilitate young people in Inala to play soccer, access facilities and participate in club sport. $7,500
Islamic Council of Queensland  An eight-week shape up challenge (nutrition, exercise and healthy lifestyle choices) aimed at women in the Islamic community. $7,500
Play List Group A 36-week program of specialised swimming lessons for children with special needs at Council's Manly Pool. $9,578
The Young Men's Christian Association of Brisbane Multiple 12-week health and wellness support programs for cancer survivors. $10,000
Wesley Mission Queensland Accessible, low-impact fitness training for homeless and disadvantaged people. $5,278
Youth Plus Foundation Limited An eight-week boxing program targeted at young people who have experienced complex trauma. $7,689
