Plaques and headstones

Brisbane City Council offers a range of plaques for lawn and lawn beam graves at Council's cemeteries. Also find information about how to arrange a headstone for a grave in a monumental area or historical cemetery.

Plaques for graves

Plaques for lawn graves and lawn beam graves are mounted on a concrete base and installed directly onto the lawn or beam. Granite bases are available for an additional charge.

Optional extras to consider with lawn grave plaques include:

  • photographs
  • emblem features
  • glass or steel plaques with images that can be designed to personalise the individual.

Inscriptions directly onto granite bases are also available.

  • take approximately four to six weeks for completion and placement on the grave.
  • for lawn beam areas must be ordered through Council.

For information on plaque fees and charges, phone Council on 07 3403 8888.

Headstones for graves in monumental areas or historical cemeteries can be arranged through an authorised monumental stonemason. Headstones can be constructed on a grave six to 12 months after the burial, depending on the style of headstone. The monumental stonemason you select will advise you on the timeframe and apply through Council for the permit to construct the headstone.

The maintenance of headstones is the responsibility of the family and descendants.
