Clean air index
Brisbane City Council's clean air index is an air quality indicator based on the measurements of seven monitoring stations. These are located at the CBD, Cannon Hill, Lytton, Rocklea, South Brisbane, Woolloongabba, Wynnum and Wynnum West.
The clean air index is calculated by comparing measured pollutant concentrations to ambient air quality guidelines from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, and is updated every hour.
The index measurements are based on some of Brisbane's main pollutants including:

The clean air index shows:
- an overall clean air rating for Brisbane, based on the pollutant that has been recorded with the highest concentration at any monitoring station for the last hour
- the current individual rating for each of the seven monitoring stations, based on the highest pollutant concentration measured over the last hour.
The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection's air quality index page provides details on how the clean air index is calculated from ambient air quality measurements.
