Environment centres

Brisbane has three environment centres at Boondall Wetlands, Downfall Creek and Karawatha Forest. Each natural area is unique and provides opportunities for visitors to the centres to:

  • relax and play in a natural setting with family and friends
  • learn about the local flora and fauna
  • participate in free or low-cost organised activities, such as canoeing, guided walks, bird watching and crafts
  • volunteer their time as guides or greeters
  • encourage outside learning with excursions through Council's School Learning Program.

Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre

Come and visit our Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre. You can view our environmental and cultural displays, learn about the abundance of wildlife supported in Brisbane’s wetlands, and discover why the area is internationally significant.

Downfall Creek Bushland Centre

Downfall Creek Bushland Centre is located at the Raven Street Reserve. People of all ages can use the centre to learn about the importance of the flora, fauna and urban bushlands in the wider environment.

Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre

Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre is Brisbane’s only environment centre on the southside. Learn about the area’s diversity through interactive self-guided experiences and make use of the centre’s meeting rooms, picnic facilities, walking trails, and Queensland’s first nature play space.

School Learning Program

Council's Environment Centres offer an Australian Curriculum integrated School Learning Program designed to cater for all grades from prep through to year 12 and university bridging courses.

Volunteer program
