PARK(ing) Day 2016 winners
Brisbane City Council proudly supported PARK(ing) Day on Friday 16 September 2016.
The annual worldwide event saw 24 teams transform parking spaces across the CBD, Fortitude Valley, South Bank, West End, Woolloongaba, Grange and Bowen Hills into temporary public parks and other creative spaces for people to visit and enjoy.
Council would like to thank all teams and visitors who helped make the day such a success.
The quality of PARKs was high, so the judging panel awarded an additional three highly commended awards to teams on the day.
Judges’ Award for Best PARK
Awarded to Cox Architecture for ‘Parkhitecture' (PARK 7).
Cox Architecture prefabricated an organic shaped object made from recycled cardboard and carpet. It turned a parking void into an architectural object that created a space where people could gather, learn and share. The object was inserted with small plants. During the course of the day, passers-by were invited to participate in a kokedama workshop and gifted their creation.
People’s Choice Award
Awarded to Queensland Young Planners (QYP) for 'Build your own parklet' (PARK 19).
QYP's PARK received the most number of votes from our online competition. Students created a space filled with old milk creates and green plants that created an eye-catching park and conversation starter.
