Gold Star and Little Stars Reading Club programs

Each year between May and July, Brisbane City Council libraries run the Gold Star Reading Club program for children aged 6-12 years and the Little Stars Reading Club program for children aged 0-5 years and theiir carers. The program closed on 31 July 2018 and will re-open in May 2019. 

Collect prizes

All children who participated in the programs can visit their local library to collect their prize for finishing the July reading challenges. 

Program benefits

Some of the yearly program benefits include: 

  • membership is free
  • Council’s reading club programs can help children improve their reading and literacy skills
  • Children will be rewarded for reading with exciting monthly incentive prizes
  • the opportunity for all participants to enter the monthly draw to win a $25 book voucher
  • children will have fun sharing their reading experiences with family and friends.

How the programs work

By reading a minimum of three books of their choice each month, completing a series of activities and recording the details in their activity book, children can collect twelve gold stars and monthly incentives.

Children who collect all twelve gold stars are eligible to:

  • enter the major prize draw to win a $200 book voucher for themselves (Gold Star Reading Club and Little Stars Reading Club members) and another for their school (Gold Star Reading Club members only)
  • receive a medallion and a certificate of achievement
  • attend their local awards ceremony with their family.
