Gold Star and Little Stars Reading Club programs

Three little girls reading a picture book

Children from all over Brisbane are invited to take part in reading programs at Council libraries this winter. The 2018 Gold Star Reading Club program for children aged 6-12 years will again be joined by the literacy program for young children, the Little Stars Reading Club program. Designed for children aged 0-5 years and their carers, the Little Stars Reading Club program is a wonderful way to connect and bond with your child while developing their early literacy skills. Both programs commence in Brisbane City Council libraries on Tuesday 1 May and run until Tuesday 31 July 2018.

Looking for five good reasons to get involved with the 2018 Gold Star or Little Stars Reading Club?

  1. Membership is free.
  2. Council’s reading club programs can help children improve their reading and literacy skills.
  3. Children will be rewarded for reading with exciting monthly incentive prizes.
  4. The opportunity for all participants to enter the monthly draw to win a $25 book voucher.
  5. It’s fun! Children will have fun sharing their reading experiences with family and friends.

How the programs work

The Gold Star Reading Club is a three month program for children aged 6-12 years.

Before children can register, they must also be members of the library.

Once registered, reading club members can visit their local library to collect an activity book. This book includes reading suggestions, competition entry forms plus heaps of fun activities and tips for good reading. Activity books will be available at all Council libraries from 1 May 2018.

Prizes and incentives

By reading a minimum of three books of their choice each month, completing a series of activities and recording the details in their activity book, children can collect twelve gold stars and monthly incentives.

Children who collect all twelve gold stars are eligible to:

  • enter the major prize draw to win a $200 book voucher for themselves (Gold Star Reading Club and Little Stars Reading Club members) and another for their school (Gold Star Reading Club members only)
  • receive a medallion and a certificate of achievement
  • attend their local awards ceremony with their family
