Lessons in the gardens
A lesson at the botanic gardens offers your students an irreplaceable, hands-on experience, where they can see science theory in action or explore geographical concepts through observing the plants and animals that live in our many unique habitats. It’s a special place – with plants from around the world and living examples of ancient and rare species. Our trained educators will engage your students in an educational experience they will never forget.
New in 2017
This year we are introducing three, exciting new classification lessons for the secondary biology curriculum and are expanding the existing primary science program into our City Botanic Gardens site.
Our brochure has been revised to make it easier for you to read and is available as a downloadable document in the formats below:

The program is offered Tuesday to Friday at 9.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm. Alterations to these times may be requested on the booking form.
Most lessons are held at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha. Some lessons are available at the City Botanic Gardens and availability will be indicated on the online booking form.

Getting to the gardens
If your school intends visiting the Botanic Gardens in a self-guided capacity (without booking a lesson or guided walk) contact us at the Gardens prior to your visit. Due to the increasing number of school and other group bookings who visit the gardens, there is a high demand for bus parking spaces, group eating areas and access to specific areas of the gardens (e.g. Japanese Garden and the Tropical Dome). Gardens staff can help you plan a visit at a time when demand is not so heavy.
During 2017 the new Visitor Information Centre is being constructed in the gardens and will require temporary pathway closures and reduced access to some areas of the gardens. If we know your excursion plans we can seek to reduce the impact of these temporary closures on your visit.
NOTE: parking for buses has also changed due to the temporary reduction of parking spaces. The designated bus parking area has been moved from where it was next to the Planetarium, to the sliplane in front of the Auditorium. Students may be dropped off and picked up at the current Brisbane City Council bus stop and the bus then moved to the parking bay area. For further information contact us at the Gardens.
If you have previously participated in lessons that are not listed above, they may still be available on request.
If you have queries about the curriculum references in the lesson overviews, contact us.
If you require a copy of our Certificate of currency for public liability, or staff blue cards, contact us.
