City Botanic Gardens cycle racks project - Brisbane City

Brisbane City Council is pleased to announce that improvement works in the City Botanic Gardens in Brisbane City were completed in late June 2017.

About the project

This project formed part of the City Botanic Gardens Master Plan, developed in 2015, which identifies ways to best showcase the garden’s heritage values and protect them for future generations. It also considers ways to improve access to the river’s edge, balances the need for activity and tranquillity and connects to other open spaces in the city.

In line with the Master Plan, cycle racks have been installed at six locations throughout the gardens at entry points and close to major facilities to allow visitors to securely park their bicycles and explore the gardens. Each cycle rack has the capacity to accommodate up to four bicycles. Installation of these cycle racks was identified in the Master Plan as a priority project for short-term delivery. Providing cycle racks improves the gardens’ connectivity to the inner-city network without compromising the quiet character of the gardens’ core.

In addition, preliminary investigations were undertaken to inform potential future upgrades.
