About the project

Brisbane City Council is pleased to announce that construction has started on the Langlands Park Memorial Pool upgrade at Stones Corner.

The upgrade will focus on improving the pool’s facilities to ensure it remains a key sporting and recreational precinct in Brisbane’s inner-south, while keeping with the site’s heritage look-and-feel.

Once complete, there will be an upgraded 50-metre and new 25-metre pool, a new program pool, as well as a new children’s aqua park. The new facility will be fully accessible with ramps into the 50-metre and 25-metre pools, and accessible change room facilities. The brand new program pool will be available for a range of classes, including learn to swim and swim development.

This project is jointly funded by Council and Storytime Swim Centres, the lessee and operator of Langlands Park Memorial Pool.

Works will include:

  • upgrading and repositioning the 50-metre outdoor pool
  • constructing a new 25-metre pool
  • constructing a new program pool
  • constructing a new aqua park
  • upgrading the existing amenities and pool entrance
  • landscaping throughout the complex
  • making the site fully accessible including ramps into the 50-metre and 25-metre pool, and accessible change room facilities.

Project timing

Construction started in mid-August 2018 and will be completed in late 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Construction will be staged to ensure a program pool is available at all times for customers. The 10-metre pool will remain open while the new program pool is built to ensure learn to swim classes continue throughout the upgrade. The 50-metre pool is anticipated to close temporarily in the off-season, from March 2019, for up to 10 months while the new facility is constructed.

Works will generally take place between Monday and Saturday from 6.30am to 6.30pm, however some work activities will need to occur at night and on weekends.

Residents and businesses in close proximity to the work may experience some impacts during construction. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we undertake these important works.

Council is committed to keeping local residents informed of construction activity in their area and will provide advance notification of any works which may cause disruption. Safe pedestrian and cyclist access around the worksite will be maintained at all times.
