Sandgate Aquatic Centre upgrade

Brisbane City Council is pleased to announce that construction has commenced on the upgrade of the Sandgate Aquatic Centre at 231 Flinders Parade, Sandgate.

Council is providing even more lifestyle and leisure opportunities for residents, including better facilities and venues for all ages to enjoy.

About the project

Council will work in partnership with Australian Crawl to upgrade the current facilities at the Sandgate Aquatic Centre.

Upgrades will include:

  • a new heated 25-metre indoor pool with accessibility ramp
  • a new gymnasium
  • improved kiosk and canteen areas
  • an upgrade and extension of the car park including spaces for people with disabilities
  • improved toilet and dressing room amenities
  • once complete, the Sandgate Aquatic Centre will be open year round.

The upgrade will focus on improving the pool’s facilities and accessibility, while remaining in keeping with the look-and-feel of the Sandgate Foreshore. These upgrades will turn the aquatic centre into a modern, world-class venue.

Project timing

Construction commenced in late June 2018 and is expected to be fully complete by late 2019, weather permitting.

Throughout construction, residents in the immediate surrounding area may experience increased noise from construction activities.

Construction will take place from 6.30am-6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work and Council will provide advance notification of out-of-hours activities.
